Hi all - this is my first post on Pistonheads and unfortunately is one of desperation...

I am to receive my new 911 Carrera S next week and am really looking forward to it. The drive away insurance is sorted and all is good apart from the quotes i am getting for annual insurance. A Flux said it would be almost £10k because of my driving history!

I have only had a license for just over 2 years and am 33 years old (don't ask) and have had an IN10 (6 points & fine, no ban) in Sept 2012 so i know i am far from a safe bet for insurance.

Even though i own the vehicle i will be a named driver as my wife will be main and she has had a license for 10+ years but with only 2 years NCB. She is Qual accountant & i am an IT consultant.

Given this and the area we live in (Harrow in London) I was prepared to look at 2 - 3k but A flux stating 10 is ridiculous no? The build is £105k in total but i'm just not sure where i can go to get a decent quote given my circumstances.

I have looked through the sticky for Porsche insurance and am going through but is there anywhere specific to go given the above?

I will be sharing my experience of the car and full spec in another post along with pics when i receive, but for now i appreciate any help or advice.

Many thanks - KC

Thanks mate I'll give them a try and post back.

The car comes with a porsche cat 5 tracker which I'll have a subscription to and we are putting 3k miles and 1k excess.

Maybe I'll have to swallow the cost...

I am guessing you have tried all the online brokers? Sometimes you may get a silly quote as the underwriters just don't specialize in your risk. Make sure you look at all avenues, try A-Plan also as they have decent products on their books.

I always use moneysupermarket as a guide and then barter for that price with a better insurer. Best of luck....

Thanks - Really appreciate the feedback.

Hopefully can sort and start testing the car out. On the test drive it was such an easy car to drive and push to the limit.i know it's not an NA engine but felt great...

And that's probably why your insurance is so high. Unless the test drive was at The Silverstone experience centre of course.

Directline have been remarkably cheap for performance cars recently. Worth a try.

Ha - no the only pushing was done by the showroom rep, limit only in 1st smile. I'll be saving that for track days as its a very special car and I'm too old to be reckless!

I don't think Adrian flux is designed for us younguns. I had a quote of 7 grand to be insured on my GTS, I'm under 30, with a claim in the last 5 years, 2 if you count the windscreen stonechip. I am now with elephant (a sub group of admiral) and £800 pounds (round about), for the exact same cover.

If you think the insurance for the road is expensive, just wait until you try to secure insurance cover to enable you to 'push' on a trackday. Ask about the excess...it'll make your eyes water....

And be careful about insuring it in your wife's name with you as a second driver. If you have a claim and the insurer is able to prove that you have been the main driver, they can and will refuse the claim.

Just want to say thanks to all of you for your advice on this so far. It's a great welcome to the forum and community.

I'll be doing the confirmations over the next few days but will keep you posted typephone

Elephant leading the way at just over 2k for now... I'll take something under 5k if the cover is good and hope for a better renewal.

I do sense "fronting" here. Or you're very generous buying your wife a new £100k+ car and then worrying about insuring it for the odd occasion you might have to drive it.

Insurance investigators, when defending a £100k claim, do a very good job of finding out if your wife was indeed the main user. Tell porkies and risk losing £100k.

Someone who has been caught with no insurance may also be under more suspicion when claiming.

IN10 in 2012 and held your licence for 2 years? So presumably you got done for driving without a licence as well as insurance?

Oh, and you're now trying to front. And you wonder why insurance companies see you as an expensive risk!

Loon would have had a field day with this thread, god rest his soul.

^^^^ this. Smelling a dodgy past & insurance fronting all adds up to not a lot of good faith. No mention of any NCB or why so late to pass test and then jump into a powerful sports car and do track days. Alarm bells could be ringing any louder.

It makes more sense to get the correct insurance, in your name, and build up your own NCB. That's how the rest of the U.K. driving population does it.
