Can bacon be put back in the freezer after it has defrosted? Just I ordered a meat pack from a butcher and stupidly put the full pack of bacon into the freezer. If it can't be looks like bacon is going to be my every day diet for a week and a half ha

Full pack of bacon = 1 sandwich.

I really don't see the problem? wink

This pack of bacon is massive. All I wanted was a serious answer as to if I can re freeze it as there is loads of it.

I'm assuming a 2kg pack so that should last you about 3 hours if your eating it alone.

Erm? Pardon me for trying to be sensible here but...

Remove pack of bacon from freezer.

Open pack.

Separate that portion of the pack that you wish to consume now.

Place that onto a bowl or plate and cover with foil or clingfilm to defrost.

Seal the remainder of the large pack into a food bag of some kind (I use a plastic 'KlipIt' thing to seal my bags).

Return the large pack to the freezer.

Repeat until the bacon supply is exhausted (this won't take long, as despite the fact that it is most certainly not 'Kosher', bacon is VERY good. Mmmmm! Bacon! lick )

...problem solved?

If the bacon is cut reasonably thickly you should be able to separate the rashers while frozen.

Love Food - Hate Waste!

Fry (or grill) up a few extra rashers. Snip 'em into pieces and stir 'em into a pan of scrambled eggs before they set... wink

He's suggesting that you take off what you need while it's still frozen, which isn't what you asked. You should never refreeze defrosted meat. You'd be safer to cook the whole lot, stick it in the fridge and use it up over a couple of days.

It's not unsafe to refreeze meat as long as it was defrosted in the correct manner, i.e. in the fridge.

Huh, you're right. I'd always been told it was bad practice to refreeze anything that has been defrosted. It's not particularly good for the texture of the food to be frozen and defrosted multiple times anyway.
