Hi
I have a Westfield se narrow body running on a 1600 cross flow with a twin choke webber, the engine needs a rebuild but wasn't sure weather to change it out for a more modern engine or rebuild it.
don't know what modern engine would fit to the cross flow bell housing any suggestions?

It would cost a lot more to do a crossflow to zetec conversion than rebuilding. Engine purchase, sump, ecu, exhaust, clutch, pair of webers, fill hole in bonnet of single down draught, pipework, potential bonnet clearance issues, as zetec is taller, engine mounts, starter motor, wiring and mapping. Adds up to a fair old bit of money. For that, you could rebuild the crossflow and have money to spare. A decent crossflow would give a 'proper' 130 bhp and still give a good bit of speed. A zetec would give 155 bhp on webers and ecu , so not far behind, although a newer engine is an expensive 25 bhp to gain. Obviously the decision is of the OP, but I would say you would be looking at £3k for the swop out.
if i was to do the conversion and bought a engine with the following what other parts would i need to purchase in order to complete the conversion?
-Throttle Body
-Injectors
-Fuel Rail
-Inlet Manifold
-Exhaust Manifold
-Leads and Plugs
-Water Pump
-Coil Pack
-Clutch
-Flywheel
-Thermostat Housing
-Oil Filter
-Oil Separator
-Sump

You wouldnt be able to use the standard throttle body and inlet , as they rise above the standard engine, unless you cut the bonnet open or redesign the bonnet with a bulge, although that usually ends up looking a bit odd. You would have to use a pair of throttle bodies or a set of motorcycle bodies. See Bogg Brothers for the manifold etc. You would need a idler kit to compensate for the lack of the a/c compressor on black top engines or a shorter belt and a different water pump on the silver top engines.
