Hi all

I posted here a little last year when looking at a Geep, I've finally got one - a bargainous swap for my rusty old Mini Cooper.

However I discovered last night that the fuel tank is leaking badly - petrol was pouring out the bottom as I filled it up.

Is the fuel tank a Mk1 escort part? Does anyone know if these are difficult to get hold of? Does anyone still make new tanks, or will I have to try to find a second hand one?

I'm going to whip the tank off at the weekend to see how badly rusted it is, it may well be easier to fit a new tank - provided I can get hold of one.

Thanks in advance for any help

The tanks are either Mk1 or Mk2 Escort Estate or Van tanks.
There is a possibility of someone still making pattern versions but not quite sure who at the moment.
An alternative is to have one made by a bespoke company. I know there are some companies who make tanks in any design out of aluminium.

I think Hadrian Panels or their stockists can source new items. Not too expensive and better than driving along with the "Towering Inferno" in the back seats.

Escort Mk1 van or estate fuel tanks are available from www.buypartsby.co.uk for the princely sum of £45.50 (I think this may be plus vat and delivery)

Magic !!! I've just bought £26 worth of tank sealant from the Complete Automobilist to stop the dampness on mine turning into a dribble into a flood. Might just pick up a new one, seal that and dump the old one. Alifab will make a custom tank for about £110 which would lift it up away from the rocks, could also be larger- not sure what sender and take-off options are available- possibly not the twist'n'lock standard variety.
Cheers

Replacement tanks - on the Tech site it says you can replace with one from a Mk1 VW Polo.
