Cayman S or spend $10k and get the GTS?
Discussion
Hi all,
I found a pretty good deal locally: well equipped "warranty punched" new S 2015 model, 6MT, Sport Chrono. But it has the base suspension. I am starting to see used GTS models under 10k miles in the low 70's, high 60's even. The new CS will be $59,500 out the door.
questions:
1) will depreciation be pretty similar on both cars or are we looking at a steeper curve on a new (discounted by $20k) S vs a GTS? Say I drive each 6k miles a year, for 5 years: both cars likely worth around $30-35K at that point?
2) handling: I have driven an S, it was fabulous. Never been in a GTS 981 (have driven a 997 GTS). How will they compare? The GTS I would get probably is equipped with X73 and PTV. I may track the car once a year, for fun, but this will be a weekend and fun car.
Also considering a 991, as I have 2 kids, but I just figured if I get the Cayman, it will be a 3rd car, probably keep my old pickup as the 2nd car, as it has 4 seats.

as an owner of a CGTS, and having driven a couple of CSs, the biggest differences are the noise, suspension and the interior, which can all be optioned to a CS. A CGTS will inevitably hold their value a little better than a CS, but by how much of a margin, no one can know at this stage. TBH, if you can find a well specced CS that had PASM, PSE and Sports Chrono, which had already seen a depreciation hit, then go for that! it would have been a different story if you were comparing them new. Thats just my 2 cents...
Although options on the S, I think you will have difficulty in finding an S with X73 and PTV, if that is important to you. I personally wanted PASM and PTV but couldn't find one with both and had to settle for just PASM (which I like). I think it may well come down to what options that are standard on the GTS which are important to you. As it happens I actually wouldn't want 20" wheels, PSE or the reduction in ground clearance that goes with the GTS - but I'm pretty sure that is a minority view.

I've moved from a heavily specced S to a GTS recently.
Although the spec of the cars was essentially the same they feel different beasts. The GTS is just incrementally better on every level in my opinion.
Yip. Most people think the GTS models are just a spec change, but lots of little tweaks throughout the car.Although the spec of the cars was essentially the same they feel different beasts. The GTS is just incrementally better on every level in my opinion.

I'd be interested to know what they are. Sure the engine is different, but I can't understand if you spec an S with the same suspension, wheels and tyres, and Chronosport for the engine mounts, how it would steer and handle any differently. The geo settings are the same as far as I am aware. The PSE is 'tweaked' on the GTS. Other than that, I'm pretty sure the rest is the same (suspension, PSM etc).

the PSE fake over run is the worse bit about a GTS, it's painfull to even have to put up with the over run !!!PSE tweaks are mentioned here: http://www.autoevolution.com/reviews/porsche-cayma...
ok for a day, but to live with quite nasty imo.
it sounds horrid, but again each to their own
