Basically the transponder in the key has been lost (key dropped). Car is now immobilised.

Trying to think of the most cost effective method of sorting this problem...

So is it possible to buy the transponders on their own?

I'm thinking if so, then I can pick up a universal key programmer on ebay for about £80.

Unless anybody else has any ideas?

Thanks

You can pay somebody to use software to remove the immobilise software on the ecu via the obd.

Yeah try specialist forum like http://uk-mkivs.net/forum/28-mkiv-mk4-golf-bora/ and some users may be able to do it depending on where you are.

Or try key master on there he can recode keys etc see this thread

Actually I don't think the transponder is missing?!

See this pic

My key looks like that without the black rectangle chip bit. It has the thing that look a bit like a bulb which I think is the transponder?? In which case possibly it's damaged...
Has no battery in though...

The bulb bit is the chip - pennies to buy and possibly get it coded back in. You'll need someone with VAG Tacho to get the SKC.

Where are you located?
