It is a constant source of amazement to me that the Lib Dems are regarded as a 'Centrist' party between Labour and the Tories.
They have just published their tax proposals-new 50% taxband for those earning 100K and above and a new local income tax to replace council tax-which will result in one in four families being £50 a year worse off and one in ten being £500 a year
worse off.
Why do not simply rename themselves the Communist party they defile the name 'Liberal' by it being associated with their party.

k up that Labour (and to a lesser extent the previous tories) There was a programme the other day when some of the 'key worker' types they were after - some hard-up medical students sharing a house somewhere - went on their website to find out how much they'd save under the Lib Dems, and found out they'd actually be paying £1700 per year more.
The Lib Dems want everyone to live like ascetics - only what you need, nothing of what you want. This type of policy and attitude does absolutely nothing for this country's aspirations.

Asceticism exactly.
There's no incentive to do well in life with these people.
You'd be, relatively speaking, better off sat at home unemployed with 6 kids, than out earning a 6-figure salary.
In this case if I were a lazy bum, I'd be smiling.

£75 a month more when the only direct service I receive is to have one bag of rubbish collected each week.
And how the hell will they administer the local income tax? That's going to consume an awful lot of the income.

Precisely, ie ME! My problem is that they've managed to con most people my age into thinking they'd be good for them.
What amazes me is the fact that they've increased the tax burden all round, just shifted amounts here and there. They say they'd get rid of council tax and bring in local income tax. Well, you know what this means? The closer you live to other people or in a city, the more you pay, and you're more likely to find the young and the poor in the cities, which will just create a rush to the country, but of course you won't be able to drive into the city from your country place, because the Lib Dems will not let you in unless your car runs on the blood of OPEC executives.
Also, you'll get companies avoiding handing out bonuses and pay rises to in turn avoid heavier taxation, so the company itself will retain more money, in effect, making these corporations richer.
They say they'll abolish university tuition fees and they opposed top-up fees. That's what they tell you. What they want instead is a graduate tax. Yep, that's right, as you struggle to get a job they'll drain money out of you (which may or may not be proportionate depending on their monthly overspend) almost as a punishment for aspiring when you need the money the most.
The Tories say they'll abolish tuition fees and get rid of 'unnecessary' university courses, and they mean it. Unfortunately the blinkered students will all vote for the shirts off their backs, and not the Tories because of 'what they did' 10-20 years ago.
IMO there should be a ban on pre-election publicity say, 2 weeks before polling day. Some time in those two weeks, an independant body posts a plain-English copy of each party's manifesto through every door in the country. No spin, no false promises, just what each party WILL do and will be obliged to complete if they win the election.
And then we'll see who comes out on top.

I put in details for the average graduate job - £15k a year, single adult, no kids etc, in short, the very least I can expect.
I'd be forking out an extra £613.
Tried to fob me off by saying that 75% of the population were poorer than me and that I was in a privleged position.
Yep, I worked bloody hard and I'm not even in that 'privleged position' yet, and already you're virtually taking the edge off that 'privleged position' through sheer statistics.
If I even meet Vincent Cable, I'll give him a few lessons in Mental Arithmetic. Emphasis on the 'Mental'.

Well bully for them!
I work, achieve a decent reward and get taxed to buggery meanwhile the dolescum on the local council estate get a tax break for being bone idle.
Will I be voting DemLibs? Will I bollox.
