Cerbera 4.5 ajp stalls and backfires and won't start again
Discussion
Can anyone shed some light ?
My Cerb has had a problem with stalling, I've had it recovered three times by the AA and taken to TVR, when she gets there the car starts and stays there for a month or so, they test drive her on occasions and nothing happens !
I pick her up and few days later, stalls while driving and backfires, then won't start! ! Think her name should be Christine like the horror film! Has anyone got any suggestions ?

Yes. Replace all consumables.
Seriously though, if it hasn't had a proper service where all ignition components, including coil packs and crank position sensor have been replaced, then now is the time to do it.
The good news is that the parts cost is relatively low, especially if you don't mind generic parts. If you have to pay someone else to do it all for you then I've no idea what you're looking at.
At the end of all that it may still not run - perhaps because your fuel pump is tired and overheating. These cars are nearly 20 years old, they will have issues. If you don't mind doing a little spannering you could have it running for under £100. Or you could get charged £100 for a partial diagnosis before any remedial work is done.

When you say "taken to TVR" where do you mean?My Cerb has had a problem with stalling, I've had it recovered three times by the AA and taken to TVR, when she gets there the car starts and stays there for a month or so, they test drive her on occasions and nothing happens !

Backfiring and stalling under load could be a number of things. When was the car last given a major service and had valve clearances and cam timings checked?

Thanks for the reply, its in bespoke in Wear, will pass this info on and hopefully they can resolve the issue cheers guys.
Please don't. I am pretty sure that Bespoke Performance (or any other professional garage for that matter) don't need hints passing on that you got from some bloke on the internet. I they are working on the car for you rather than you doing it yourself then tell them the symptoms and pay for their expertise.Gassing Station | Cerbera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
