Asking for a friend (honest guv'), he was caught doing 98 on the M4 at 2:30am a couple of weeks ago.

Had his court summons through the post for November. If we understand it correctly, the guidelines are between 4-6 points and up to a 28 day ban. Is this correct?

He also has 6 points already on his license (not sure what for or when from, I can find out if it's important)

If he got six points and a ban, would he then get a further ban fro rotting up 12 points?

Is it worth him getting legal representation, or doing it himself? He's accepted that he's getting banned, but would rather it wasn't a long one.

Thanks in advance

You won't get points and a ban from one offence. Its one or the other.

Of course six points would put him upto 12 where he may face a ban under the totting up rule.

Six points for 98mph? You'd be unlucky I'd say.

In Yorkshire courts, 98-100 mph has a guideline of 6 points. For info, 94-97 would usually be 5 points.

I knew of someone who was given 11 points for proper speeding.
Made their next 3 years interesting, as they had to drive like "Miss Daisy".

Good job you are not in Scotland! 98 would see you paraded naked in the local village then hung from the gallows at the entrance to said village.

Does that mean he had a chauffeur?
