Thought i would start a thread on my first escapade into British executive car ownership, previous to this i have had 2 vw lupos, mk2 mx5, mk1 mx5, mk1 mx5 turbo, mk2 fiesta pop plus and a lexus ls400 converted to lpg by myself and a honda s2000. I sold the s2000 to get back into barge ownership as i missed the ls400, Initially the search started off for a nice x308 xjr then a quick browse on ebay brought up a daimler super v8 NOT XJR JAGUAR etc, and with 200k and well within budget to allow for change for any repairs it was a must. Had the nikasil engine swapped out at 60k and interior is a bit groggy and the supercharger is a bit knocky but all will be sorted within time. I am extremely chuffed with the purchase and doesn't half get along.
at 21 the insurance is extremely reasonable too at £1100, £150 more than the s2k, fuel economy is a little worse, just under a week i have done 700 miles averaging 16mpg but i still have the lexus lpg kit which will be fitted in due time. Plans are to just tidy it up and sort some noises out and keep it as a daily whilst i build another mx5 turbo

Does quite urgently need the supercharger bearing replacing and think i may get a smaller pulley at the same time and also do the camchain tensioners for piece of mind along with a gearbox service, quite fallen for the car really it has a real air of class to it. Sagging rear headliner i fixed with some drawing pins and think it looks quite alright
Loving that all i have had is positive comments about it, absolutely loving the waftiness of the car. fuel consumption is a little crippling at an average of 16mpg but i have an LPG kit laying around that i'll get on it soon enough just need to investigate where to install the injectors
When you get round to the supercharger it might be easier to source a replacement from a 4.2 engine. I had a rattly S/C on my 4.0 XKR so did the pulley upgrade first, still rattled. Did the rear bearings, still rattled. You can't do the mid-bearings so the third and final time I use a S/C from a decent low mileage 4.2 and it was spot on. Needs a little tweaking to fit to the 4.0 inlet pipe but I would guess there's more chance of finding a decent 4.2 S/C than 4.0 now.
PS. Couldn't you have put those drawing pins in in some kind of pattern rather than all random, that photo belongs on the teeth itch thread!

i'll have a look for a 4.2 one then might make it easier thanks. The drawing pins are actually a 500ml oasis bottle apart from each other as it was really annoying me having the headliner sagging before heading out on a long drive. if you're sat in the back seats it doesn't look messy at all.PS. Aaahh yes, the 500ml Oasis bottle internationally recognised unit of measure!
