I thought I would just trawl through the receipts I have for my 996 C4S to see what it has had done and how much it has all cost including tyres.
From 2013 to today it has had.......£8722.31 spent on it over 19705 miles. This excludes a major service back in 2013 by Nine Excellence as I don't have the invoice.
That is just 44p a mile excluding fuel and insurance. In that I have had new trailing arms, both radiators, grill set, 6 tyres, clutch slave cylinder, steering column, indicator stalk, spark plugs, front and rear disks and pads as well as minor and major services including all the right fluids being changed when they should be.
How does that compare with yours?

If I take into account your items its cost me nothing !

In 7 years of 996.2 GT3 ownership, the variocam solenoid and 1 air con condenser and 1 alternator diode had to be replaced,1 loose bolt had to be tightened (total under £350). That's after 30k miles and over 25 track days. Apart from servicing and tyres, the rest of the money I spent was because I wanted to.
Ridiculously reliable, stupidly cheap to run, one of the best driving cars around, and I made 30% of my purchase price profit when I sold it.
Does it get much better?

My idea is not to wait, on things to go wrong.I spend money on the car each year Shocks one year,brakes following year service work on top of that. I work my way around the car job wise.
So many owners overlook items like Shocks,bushes,brakes etc.
You drive you pay, look after the car it will look after you.

Yep. That is the way I look at it. I have got some rust marks on the wheel hubs. Not sure what to do about those and the screws that keep the interior wheel arch plastic in place are rusted and so I want those replaced next. So many owners overlook items like Shocks,bushes,brakes etc.

My next big spend is on the audio. Hertz speakers and new amp plus a small sub. Mechanically it will want for nothing
Since Sept 09 my 996 C2 has cost me £9335, this excludes a service in 09 I have lost the invoice for, fuel, tax & insurance so add £5k ish + fuel to that total.
Last year was expensive as exhaust was replaced with Cargraphic due to original rusted out, major service & other bits.
This year already had rear brakes, needs front tyres for MoT next month & small service. I've been unlucky as my clutch broke & the water pump has failed twice
Mileage approx 20k, approx £1pm exc fuel, sou ds expensive now!
Last year was expensive as exhaust was replaced with Cargraphic due to original rusted out, major service & other bits.

Ermmmmm these all seem very expensive indeed...... what I would say is if you can do some of the work yourself then ownership is cheap as chips.
I have done service, brakes, exhaust, temp sensor, and a few other things and doing it yourself it really doesn't cost much (although replacing the coolant is expensive as it holds about 100 litres)
I think indys are good especially for some big jobs but for touching your car they want a fixed amount of at least £500 so will always find a couple of things ...

Ironic considering many owners are just as / more proficient than some garages.

I've just rounded off my 4th year with my 2004 996 C4S Tip Cab with a major service at an independent. It has therefore had one minor, one major, and two annual check-overs in the 22K miles I've driven. Cost has been around £7000, this has included a Cargraphic exhaust (just done as Porsche exhaust was splitting on both sides), two front tyres and two rear tyres, plus common stuff like brake pipes etc. When I purchased the car I decide to put £3K a year aside for such costs (Not counting a reserve I keep to cover "the worst case" with the engine) so I'm a bit ahead. Ive spent so far this year £125 on brake pads,done these myself,easy peasy job. had a full service last year including a new set of tyres N2's of course, small oil leak from tip gearbox done under warranty including those mushy nuts that stop the exhaust from falling off, a new set of spark plugs that were missed by the opc on most recent service ,again under warranty.Had the lower temp thermostat as recommended by hartech fitted by an indy as bleeding is a bit of a task,also got rid of the pisswater mobile 1 oil in favour of the thicker millers nanotech, also recommended by hartech,Out of warranty now but car looks to be sorted.All I need to do now is get it mot'd as have broken me flippin leg along with a torn ligament so cant frikkin drive it...I have done service, brakes, exhaust, temp sensor, and a few other things and doing it yourself it really doesn't cost much (although replacing the coolant is expensive as it holds about 100 litres)
