Hope somebody can offer some advise. I need to replace the tyres on my vintage caravan, currently it is fitted with 450/475- 21 four ply tyres which are tubed. The original wheels are fitted. I would like to fit a heavier duty tyre and be able to put more pressure into the tyres to aid stability. Advise and comment appreciated.

The caravan weighs approx half to three qrt ton.

Best Advice, visit a gypsy encampment and ask what they do

I don't tow but I would have thought increasing the pressure would reduce the contact area with the road and therefore reduce stability. Would heavy duty tyres counteract that?

Thanks for reply, yes I have managed to find a supplier who has six ply in stock which will solve the problem. Expensive but should last another six or seven years!

The previous posters quip regarding asking gypys, over the years attending steam rallies and the like I have a fair number of friends who are gypsy's. Looking forward to seeing them again at Long Melford steam rally in a few weeks time.
