After giving up the ghost with GIMP I have Photoshop.

Before I install it all I have a quick question...
I have Adobe Photoshop 5.5 and Adobe Photoshop 7.0 but the 7.0 disk says "upgrade". Does this mean I have to install 5.5 first or will it have the whole programme on 7.0?

I'm guessing that the whole programe is on the 7.0 disk but at some point in the installation you will have to 'show' it the 5.5 disk.

I tried installing 7.0 straight, got half way through and had to prove I had 4.0 or later. Just installing them both!!

If you install 7.0 you'll need the 7.0.1 upgrade as it screws about with the text layers after a while in 7.0. Then when you click on any text layer your layer will default to the bottom one and a message saying "This Layer is Locked" or somthing like that. Very anoying.

If you can go for Photoshop CS.

Hope that helps, if you've got any problems drop me a mial.

Chris

P.S You can uninstall 5.5 after 7.0

Lois. Stop.

You don't need to actually install 5.5. You should be able to just insert your 5.5 CD/enter your activation code from 5.5 when it asks for proof of prior purchase. I had 6.0 and that's what I did when installing my upgrade to CS.

I'm on 6 and was looking for the potential damage if I wanted to upgrade to CS but couldn't easily see it on Adobe site - roughly how much is it?

However much, is CS worth the upgrade?

It's $169 and you can download it from the web site (at least in the States). I upgraded because I bought Premier Pro 1.5, After Effects Pro and Encore 1.5. CS is easier to use with those programs (launch from within program, edit in native, etc). For $169, you can hardly go wrong considering the price of the full version. In fact, it might be just me but CS is a tad more intuitive than the previous versions as well.
