You can get Lifeline Shimano cleats on Wiggle for £5, just get them instead and replace as necessary. Or take your shoes off before you walk up the stairs?

I have Look cleat covers, as he says they do a great job.

I've even stopped forgetting to take them off when I get back on the bike now, saves a lot of frustration wondering why I can't clip in!

Sounds like the OP would be better off with SPDs not SPD-SLs.

I've tried using Keos and SLs for commuting and absolutely hated them. SPDs might not be the last word in power transfer or ultra-lightweight but both the pedals and shoes are so much easier to live with!

I've got a pair of cleat covers which came with my new Keo Blade pedals for my best bike though - haven't tried them out yet.

Thats interesting, you would think Shimano have the proprietary rights to the design, copyright or whatever teh correct term is? Also interesting is the 4.5 deg of float that Lifeline chose rather than the traditional 6, 2 or 0 Shimano offer...

I've used them before and wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Currently using Shimano ones having bought some pedals

Its the gritty and muddy roads in Surrey. When its wet a short walk at the cafe stop in my cleats fills them up with mud and grit which then wears out my pedals too. Its a faff, but I'd rather carry the covers. I've gone through 3 sets of cleats and one set of pedals in 10 months.
