I learned a great new word this weekend.
I was working on my daughter's car, told her I'd fixed her rattly exhaust bracket. She replied, 'Is it a proper repair or is it 'agrispec'?
I didn't know what it meant so asked her. She told me 'agrispec' means 'like a farmer would do it', eg tied on with fence wire or something similar, it doesn't just refer to repairs, but could also mean plastered with mud or searchlights on the roof, that sort of thing. It's my new favourite word.
As per the title, have you learned any new words lately and what do they mean?

ps, I suppose the exhaust bracket repair was a bit 'agrispec' as I welded on roofing bolts and washers to form a new bracket, so I can't complain.

T'other eveing I was doing some work and the tv was on as background company.
One of those American food programs, Triple D maybe. Anyway, the chef used a word and added 'ed' to it. I looked up and saw the presenter with a look on his face 'WTF' because the chef has intoduced a brand new word to our (their) language.

Damned if i can remember tne word just now. Cool starry bra eh?

Idempotent. It refers to a process which if run more than once will have no effect after the first run.

The term came up in a casual work conversation with a younger colleague. Had to ask him what it was. Think Id need a spot of counselling after any blumkining to be honest.

Chap in question has been an avid Tinder user for some time now. Hasn't had the greatest of success so far. I wonder if he might need to work on his "ice breaker"

Google will explain. I now know that there is such a thing as a reverse blumkin too. Neither are on my bucket list.
Anyway, there you go....My new words for this week.

Scarily enough, I did actually know what it meant, that's why I asked. It was also a younger colleague at work who told me about it, she purported to be an enthusiast, don't know why she told me???

Lucubration.

Sounds so much better than it is. (To work (by lamplight) (at night)).

I've known it for a while. But now everyone reading the thread has just learned a new word.

I've just made a minor error sorting out my three phase converter in the garage. It isn't very wrong, but when I realized what I had done half the estate learnt some new words.

Just listen to R2 Vanessa Phelps at half past silly in the morning.
She introduces a new word every day. 75% of which - I never knew existed.

Ullage. The empty space in a container or parcel. My missus (who works in logistics) mentioned it the other day.

Xylarium (X pronounced like a z in xylophone)

It means a library containing samples of wood. Our Xylarium at work has over 8,000 different species!
