Have a house abroad which was storm damaged last year. Local property management company quoted the cost of repairs which the insurance company, through a loss adjuster, agreed with in the most part.

Insurance company paid me the money as they weren't able to pay direct to the management company.

Management company proceeded to do the work without my instruction to do so, and are now chasing me for the money (and suggesting they'll go to the insurance company direct for the cash, leaving the insurance company to recoup the money from me if I don't pay).

Surely it's down to me who I choose to do any remedial work to my house, and if someone's taken it on themselves to carry out any work ahead of any payment then that's their issue?? Not necessarily adverse to paying, just querying their approach.

Guess it will depend on what is written in the contract you signed with them...

With who? There was no stipulation made regarding the money when the claim was paid out.

Admittedly their quote is what the insurer/ loss adjuster has based the value of the claim on but not who it needs to be paid to.

Precisely. In the contract with the "management company".

If it's a multi-home development under a single manager I'd say it's quite normal for the manager to be able to push owners around to get a property reinstated after storm damage.
