Digital radios and TVRs

Has anyone fitted a DAB digital radio in their Tiv, do you need an external aeriel and does anyone know if Pioneer do one that isn't a seperate unit so it fitting it will be a straight forward swap with no messing about with wires?

Yes. It came with one of those aerials that sticks to the windscreen. Needless to say it didn't get stuck there.

I put the aeriel on a sheet of perspex that is velcro'd to the carpet behind the passenger seat. The wires run under the carpet & round the glovebox to the stereo. Reception is good.

Fitted a Goodmans Dab CD/Radio in my SEAC - excellent sound. The aerial is a small box (matchbox size). No need for an exterior aerial. Hardly ever use it though!!!

I bought a Pioneer with DAB unit built into the head unit. Fitted a "bee-sting" type aerial with it - but ran it through the car into the Tuscan boot - where the factory used to fit them. It worked very well.

When it warms up I'll go outside and see what model number it is!!

Have got a DAB tuner in the Tuscan. No idea if it's got an aerial plugged into it, where it is, etc. However, reception is verging on "if I'm going North-north-east at 51.7mph, I can just about get a signal for Radio 4".

I had a DAB tuner (Pioneer) fitted in my Tuscan when it was delivered new in October 2000. Reception (mainly South-East and Midlands) has been perfect ever since.

I think the aerial was fitted out of sight in the NSR wheelarch. I had an idea that was the standard place for the factory to put them but that may just be moonshine.

Got the standard Pioneer DAB tuner (seperate box) in my Tuscan S.
The aeriel used to be in the factory hidden location (they stuff it behind the carpet underneath the n/s 'c' pillar & reception was cr@p. I've now mounted it on the bootlid & put a ground plane (made of aluminium foil tape) on the underside of the bootlid & reception is very good.
I had a Blaupunkt woodstock in my Griff which has a DAB tuner built into the head unit, the Pioneer has far superior reception.

I have the same as Leadfoot, and my aerial is stuffed down by the wheel arch, drivers side, can't even see it and reception's great!

For those wishing to keep their existing sounds system and want to receive DAB then you can buy a small unit from a company called REVO. It connects to either the aerial connection or an auxillary one.
Dixons do a similar piece of kit for the house hifi, absolutely brilliant and only £49.

As further proof, I have just been messing with my SatNav in the garage with all doors closed. I was fiddling with the DAB and to my suprise, I got completely clear reception from the radio! This is with the Pioneer 'bee sting' aerial in the boot, and the garage door closed!

We have a Blaupunkt DAB53 fitted in the Chim. No aerial in sight, but tucked under the dash top.

DAB is... well... as good as DAB is, really. Damn good in towns, but not great on the open road. Doesn't matter - tailpipes to listen to
