I think I've been sold counterfeit Rudy Project sunglasses. (Well not me, my missus bought them for me.)

Yesterday my missus gave me two pairs of Rudy Project sunglasses, which she purchased from www.otticanet.com.
At first glance I think they seem to be a genuine company selling genuine products but one of the pairs of glasses has a hinge that is so stiff it's almost snapping the frame when you try to open or close the arm. I don't think they would have passed any sort of quality inspection.

Also, according to the warranty booklet the glasses should come with a hard case and a cleaning cloth, which they did not, just a drawstring bag thing.

They're fake, right?

What would you do now?

What did they say when you contacted them?

I'd question the website, the search function doesn't appear to work.

I haven't yet. For one thing they're in Italy and I don't want to call there if I can help it. Also, I'm not actually the purchaser and the missus is at work.

When she gave me the glasses last night I mentioned that they might be fakes, which felt a bit ungrateful, but she was adamant they were genuine. Now I've looked at them properly today I'm pretty sure they are counterfeit.

There are several people posting that their ray bans are fake, but most people are moaning about their undisclosed shipping and tax fees.

There doesn't seem to one customer who has managed to send an item back whether real or fake.
Oh right! That's not good.
I hope she paid on a credit card. We might have a chance of getting the money back then.

They've got thousands of good reviews on trustpilot. I think they look legit, to be honest! I bought Raybans at an airport and had to ask for teh case and box...

I think you are right because I'm emailed them and this was their (quick) reply...

Dear Theresa,

thanks for sending us few pictures.

We can provide you new arms and screws and you can easily replace them. If you cannot do it by yourself, you may go to an optician and ask to replace the arms. They usually do it for free but in case they will ask you to pay, you may forward us the receipt and we will refund you.

We remain at your full disposal for any further request.
Our offices will be closed on June 2nd due to public holiday. We promise to get back the soonest possible.

Kind Regards
Susanna

Scammers selling fakes as genuine wouldn't offer that level of support, I'm sure.

That does look good and and if you go to an optician who sells the same brand they may confirm authenticity!
