Time for another eBay rant?
Discussion
Item I wanted on ebay, theatre memorabilia listed in America. Also happens to be printed material which attracts duty at 0%.
I contacted the seller who only wanted to sell through the global shipping programme (fair enough) and ebay applies duty rates based on category.
Phoned ebay Sunday and lady told me to make the purchase so she would have an electronic trail to raise the issue with the correct team. All sounded like no problem.
Got an email from ebay saying I shouldn't have made the purchase without being happy with the charges. Money already gone to their partner (Pitney Bowes), nothing they can do if seller lists in 'wrong' category etc. Tried explaining I made the purchase on the advice of an employee, but seem to have hit a brickwall.
It wasn't fortunes, and if nothing else I'll get a suitable value's worth of inconvenience out of ebay staff, but do I have any legal grounding for trying to battle?
