Hi All,

Thought there was a topic about this but couldn't find one. I'm thinking of getting a wheel and a sim game but can't seem to make my mind up. What are other people's experiences please?

I currently have a PS4 and a PC (specs below). Are there any wheels which would work with both?

CPU: INTEL(R) Core™ i7-6700K Quad Core 4.00 GHz 8MB Cache LGA1151 + HD
Graphics
CS_FAN: Maximum Airflow with Case Cooling Fans for your selected case
FAN: Cooler Master Seidon 120V Liquid Cooling System 120MM Radiator
(Cooler Master CPU Water Cooling)
HDD: 1TB SanDisk X400 Series SATA III Gaming MLC Solid State Disk (Single Hard Drive)
MEMORY: 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4/2400mhz Dual Channel Memory (HyperX Fury
w/Heat Spreader)
MOTHERBOARD: MSI Z170-A Krait Gaming INTEL Z170 Chipset, ATX Mainboard
w/ 4 RAM slots, USB 3.1, 3 PCIe x16, 3 PCIe x1, 1 SATA Express, 4
SATA3, 1 Ultra M.2
OS: Windows 10 Home
OVERCLOCK: No Overclocking
POWERSUPPLY: 650 Watts Power Supplies (Corsair 650 Watts VS650
Gaming Power Supply)
SOUND: HIGH DEFINITION ON-BOARD AUDIO
VIDEO: MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB 16X PCIe 3.0 Video Card (Single Card)

Sims I can see around:

Dirt - have this on PS4, but am struggling to be honest. Maybe a wheel would cure it or just setting my car up better.
AC - read the thread here. Like the modding but don't like the "beta" reports on it
PCars - Not sure if this is going to be the same as Dirt?

Failing that, anyone see anything on the horizon that could be worth waiting for? I have hopes for GT7 as a long time fan but if it's anything like 5 or 6 then I'll be disappointed again. Or Forza coming to the PC?

Also: Wheel recommendations!!! Is there a wheel that would works on both? I've only seen one thrustmaster listing as working with both, would this be a good one for me to get?

I do play the Truck Simulator's so getting one that works well with that would be a bonus but not essential (as the controller is fine for this).

Thanks

Logitech do 2 wheels which are basically redressed G27's, I think 1 is XBox One and PC compatible and the other PS4 and PC compatible.

Assetto Corsa is good, but I prefer Race Room Racing Experience for casual online play, just because of the (IMHO) better lobby system. RRRE is also free, or atleast until you start buying cars and tracks, and there are usually online lobbies with the free cars and tracks. I guess you can end up spending around £30 on a good range of content.

Forza beta is also available for PC now for free, although there was no wheel support when I last tried it.

Iracing is pretty good as far as sims go.

I use a Logitech G29 and have had the G27 and G25 wheels before. All have been great, I'd definitely recommend one.

My G25/WSP has been sitting in a spare room for years now frown

They are definitely worth it if you want to make the most of driving games.

AC is pretty good now, especially since the last tyre model was deployed.

It needs more race cars though.

Having tried a worrying number of sims, my favourite at the moment are;

Forza 6
Assetto Corsa
Dirt Rally

Forza and Dirt are both great fun, and very life like. AC is less fun but more life like. It's quite scary how close!

(Forza played on a game pad. DR & AC on a G25)

rFactor 2: Best handling and best AI (IMO of course), slightly outdated graphics. Difficult to find other players online without joining a league.
Automobilista: Slightly outdated graphics, but 2nd best AI. Feels the most complete of the sims, even though it's still classified as 'early access'.
Raceroom Racing Experience: A very solid game with amazing sound. Car variety and physics were lacking but have been significantly improved over the past 12 months.
iRacing: certainly not cheap, but the online experience is second to none. Multiplayer only. If you're a perfectionist and enjoy dedicating a whole week to perfecting a single car/circuit, this is the sim for you.
AC: Looks great, handles well. I'm not a fan of the base game's track or car selection though. AI is pretty ropey.
PCars: Looks great. Nice selection of cars. I've barely touched it however.
