There has been a lot of discussion on the site about how if you pay more with the high end insurers you get better service and cover. Do not be so sure as I found out recently.
I have my Speciale insured through the FOC through Locktons at Chubb. This weekend I was going down to the Bournemouth wheels event to join in the display. The event consists of a static display and parade drives along the front on a closed public road. The whole event is run by the council and follows the local police guide lines. I called Locktons as the organisers recommend you tell your insurers out of courtesy. You can imagine my surprise when they responded that I would not be covered by my insurance cover as a closed public road and spectators were involved. I explained that the organisers were providing full third party liability but it made no difference no cover for the car at the event apart from when it was in the static display.
I was really amazed as Chubb are happy to supply track day cover but not cover involving closed public roads.
I had no option but to cancel going. If anyone is going to events this summer involving closed public roads or parade laps check with your insurance company as you will most probably find you have no cover at the event.
Needless to say my view of Locktons as the preferred insurance partner of the FOC has gone down somewhat. If you own this type of car going to these types of functions I would have been thought fairly common so I am amazed they do not cover it as standard.

I am insured with Chubb and decided not to go on a charity gig because the t's and c's exclude such events. I'm generally satisfied with the cover etc. though - smashed my 458 windscreen which will cost £1800 or so for parts only and that is covered.

By the way, the 'Ring is specifically named as excluded. In case anyone has a doubt about what a derestricted toll road is.

It's a real shame but I can understand why. Enthusiastic demonstration driving around a lot of pedestrian breadwinners can end very badly.
