Car #51 - VW Scirocco 2.0 TSI Bluemotion GT DSG

After a recent run of shedding with sub £2k cars i felt that i'd dodged a big bill for too long and sooner or later it was going to kick me in the arse.
Searching lots of different options from new to used i stumbled across the cheap lease deals on Scirocco's that were around a few weeks back. The prices seemed almost too good, cheaper than a golf with similar spec with the DSG box and a 2 year lease that ends up costing less than a years depreciation. I tried to like the Golf but it just seemed to sensible, so i went for the squashed version instead. Ok i know its not on the latest chassis but i'm not going to be taking it to a track or ragging it to death so i really don't think i will notice any difference day to day.
The Lease Deals thread gave some good options and I found TL Darby VW main dealer who were very helpful and I signed on the dotted line - 5 weeks later this arrived on my drive this morning with 11 miles on the clock.
Not had chance to drive it yet so looking forward to putting some miles on it over the weekend. first impressions are that its a lot more solid than my recent cars (mk1 TT, Saab 9-3, W203 Mercedes, Clio), the tech seems pretty good and the white/black combo works well

I wrote about it in the lease thread there are some unreal deals if your quick to take the plunge. Sorry to hijack your thread the Scirroco looks lovely my only gripe is the size & weight of the front doors other than that I love mine.

I've recently changed from an MX5 to a just under 2 year old Scirocco as I could no longer get all my work gear in the Mazda and wanted something a bit more up-to-date. It's the 1.4 160PS (Supercharged / Turbocharged) with the DSG gearbox. I was keen on this model when it first came out - seems to be the perfect mix of economy and performance and wanted to try a DSG (also the perfect mix for lots of London driving during the week and longer journeys at weekends)...
Hoping that mine, being the very last iteration of this model before it was dropped for the new facelift Scirocco, has had all the well documented issues with both the twin charger engine and 7 Speed DSG ironed out.
So far, so good and the best of all worlds if you can only have one car for everything. Have to agree about those heavy doors though - a bit of a pain - and so fed up of passengers using the glass (no door frame) to close the door or worse leaning on it (watching glass bending is horrible)...
I miss the manual 'box in the MX5 a little (but that was the best out there) but the DSG is the best 'auto' I have had - it has taken me a couple of months to get used to it and get the best of it - all part of the fun of 'learning' a car. It feels a lot faster than the 160BHP it has.
Also, it really does seem the Scirocco is much better value than the equivalent golf - new or nearly new.

Haha - maybe... only time will tell... lots of horror stories out there I admit. I'll be extending the warranty in a couple of years but otherwise just going to enjoy it - it's a superb engine when on-song IMHO - a pity it had to be dropped - but can see why.I also read about extreme oil consumption issues on this engine and 3K miles in (it's now on 11K) mine hasn't used a drop - doesn't stop me anxiously checking it every week though!
