I'm on holiday in southern Spain. I was on the bed with my 23 month old daughter with my wife facing me on the bed opposite with her back to the balcony door that was open with the curtains partially closed. My daughter was in her nappy, me and my wife had beachwear on. My two boys were next to me on the bed playing on their iPads.

I looked up and saw an old guy leaning around the corner from the next balcony with his smartphone pointing into our room. As soon as I clocked him he disappeared.

What should I do? I have no proof but it has freaked me out. I don't speakie de lingo and not many people in the resort appear to speak English.
Initial thought are knock on his door and confront him. He looked foreign, so that may not work.

Speak to reception - their English isn't great?

Phone our rep?

Call the police?

Chill and enjoy my holiday and just hope I'm being paranoid? Maybe he was taking a selfie, though why there when he had the whole balcony..

He was going to kill you in your sleep, but posting about it on here will have made him change his mind.

Don't be stupid.

Your face was 2x2 pixels on the picture.

I had a similar situation, the woman fraked out as I was taking a picture of some university building when she was leaving it.

I was using and ultra wide lens... And she wasn't even in a effing picture.

She still tried to steal my camera, oh how offended she was...

Coming back to smartphones - they don't "zoom", typical focal length is 28mm equivalent.

Chill out.

That might not be a bad start...

...and if you get nowhere because of language issues, then try that.

But that's a definite.

I was wondering about this, but I've seen loads of Jackie Chan's Hong Kong movies and a few Chuck Norris ones, so I can take care of myself.

You're there to relax and unwind, don't get stressed!

Leave the kids to keep guard and you and the missus nip down the Tapas

This sounds like a little more than thw rapey neighbour taking a picture that the OP and his family happened to be in, he was leaning around the edge of the balcony.

But still. His picture would be mainly of reflections in the window etc. And maybe some body parts smile

I only mentioned he was foreign looking as it meant I was unlikely to get anywhere if I confronted him.

The majority of the guests here are foreign. Not many English - one of he reason we picked it. wink

Anyways, me and the missus have left the kids in the room and have come down for a meal - don't worry, the baby monitor is on just in case. wink

Oh, and I spoke to the hotel manager discreetly - I will just keep an eye on the kids for our last few days - we've had a fantastic time up til now.

Are you for real?

Or is this a really bad taste trolling exercise?

This really happened, but I was trying to make light of the situation. I have relaxed somewhat after speaking to the hotel manager.

We are not far from the Portuguese border though.

From something that happened at my school I know that there are sick people with an interest in children out there, so know the threat is real.

So that's why you've left your kids in the room? Really? I would stop digging, seriously.

You're (allegedly) on holiday but your first thought is to start posting nonsense on an motoring-based internet forum?

If someone was leaning over the balcony looking and filming into my room, I'd be popping next door to have a chat fairly quickly.

I was joking about leaving the kids in the room......

I am not joking about being on holiday in Spain. I did see some guy leaning around the balcony from the one next to mine. Like I said I've calmed down now.

If I was you and a guy was clearly leaning round the corner pointing a phone, which in this day and age will more than likely have a camera function, at me and my family who are sitting in our hotel room I would want to be knowing what he was doing. Simple knock on the door and politely ask what are you leaning around the wall and looking into my room will suffice and see what his explanation is. If he doesn't speak English ask the front desk if some one can translate for you if they cant understand and you are concerned speak to your rep.

Man up, if it has spooked you or makes you uncomfortable nip it in the bud.
