Intermittent Astra starting problem

On two occasions recently my wife's Astra (Mk 5? 2005, 1.8 petrol) has refused to start. I haven't seen the problem but when she turns the key none of the dash lights come on, and it doesn't turn the engine over. After a couple of tries/leaving it for a few minutes the car then starts normally and runs fine.
It's had a new battery within the last year so I don't think that's the problem and although it's used mainly for short journeys it does get a reasonable run of 50 miles or so a couple of times a week. I know it's a pain to try to diagnose, being intermittent, but does anybody have any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks in advance.
