Just like the Cringe thread, and other off topic threads before, it seems the most recent incarnation of the "Crappy" plates thread has bought it as a result of a small handful of users that took offence to the content - boo, hiss, etc frown

What next? The decent plates thread, people who take pictures of bad parking, supercars, rare cars, race cars, etc, as these are obviously "beardy" (to quote a user on the thread) activities as well. Maybe the knob thread because people complain about life in that one, so that's not on either. Oh yes, and the dashcam thread should go too because that's basically a video based plate / knob thread hehe In fact maybe just remove all of the non car / motoring sub-forums on here as some of them specifically relate to certain hobbies or activities not related to cars which other users might consider "beardy" getmecoathehe

Joking aside, the original iteration of the crappy plates thread from god knows how many years back, started as a bit of a laugh over what was created. It wasn't meant to be used as a debate / argument over the legalities, etc of the plate. Is there any chance we can try and turn the thread back into just that, remove the hostility and accept it as a humorous thread like it was originally? smile There's only so many "What Car" threads you can take before you go crazy hehe

At the end, it wasn't about plates though, was it? The last few pages were PH's typical usual suspects, derailing and trying to score pedantic wker points off each other through post-trawling etc - that is, on both sides of the argument.

I don't understand it tbh. Posters on both sides of the argument seem to take it far too seriously rather than just accepting it (and similar threads) for what it was intended to be originally - a bit of light hearted fun alongside everything else smile

Mind you the same could be said for other areas too. There just seems to be so much hostility & anger across the entire forum and it seems to have worsened the last couple of years frown I do wonder whether some of the users that fly into a fit of rage over some threads on here are the sort to do the same on the road, in a similar way to the recent Jaguar LR road rage guy frown

Would have thought it was better to ban the offenders rather than kill the thread - as they are "usual suspects" it might have cleaned up some other threads too.

No-one wanted to see the thread shut. The argument only escalated because av185 slagged off another members car, which is not the done thing, and then insisted he'd never ever broken the speed limit which is plainly nonsense, and people pulled him up for it. I will duck out of the thread from now on anyway. A least until one my plates gets featured! wink
