After three weeks of searching the net and local breakers i have found a suitable engine for the S1.

I used to trip over these things in my spanner days but it seems the 2.8 is getting rarer by the day.

Start buying old granadas now

The engine is a 2.8, overbored to 3 ltr and reconditioned with a recon gearbox out of a 2.8i Capri, so i am going to put the box in as well (the old one was noisy on the over run in 3rd and 5th)
All the above for £142 - what a bargain

The old girl will be back on the road soon and sounding better than ever (i hope)
I will have some spares (starter motor, injection system, alternater and an old g/box) if anyone wants them, then please PM me or they will be going with the car.

On a sadder note i will be selling the car once it is done and run in.
Thanks to everyone that has helped me in the past but mods to the Griff mean i have to sell the S.

congratulations on the new block!

A bored up 3 ltr ? I was offered the same thing last week... I desided to go for the standard 2.8, mainly because the price was too high... (could almost buy a complete Cosworth for it) But this engine came from an English Sierra and had a "spaghetti" exhaust port. (which wouldn't fit in the S)

I was told that the siamese port on the S is pretty much a bottleneck for more power.

I'm curious if there are any alternatives known for the siamese ports which fit the S and give it more breathing power.
