H4 bulb question

Is it normal on an H4 bulb to have both elements lit even on low beam? I have a 6v feed to the high beam element which switches to 12v when on high beam. I always assumed they would work 100% independantly.

Now discovered that it's not correct and fixed it. The 3 fingered sloth that wired the bike before me had everthing arse about tit!

You could have mentioned it was a bike.

Some have dual looms for import purposes. Countries where lights have to be on at all times run a 6V line so the headlight doesn't effect the starter motor, cdi; etc.
