I grew up in north east London and recall on a number of occasions, as a youngster, passing a steam train pretty much in someone's front garden/shopfront in the potters bar area of Enfield.

Pretty sure this was Hertford road but I can't recall how many years it is since I went down that road and actually saw it. Must be at least 20, so I could easily be mistaken. Last time I saw it was on the open top 333 bus with a mate in the summer holidays.

I've googled and can't seem to find anything. Not a sausage, so am I imagining this or does anyone have any info on why someone had a full size steam train in front of their house?

Being Ex local ( well Edmonton) it did exist and IIRC was a finnish 5ft gauge loco. Was in a timber yerd just north of Southbury Rd JUnction on the RH side as you go to Waltham Cross. Has been gone fro several years now, but it did put the frighteners on me first time isaw it as you come round the LH bnd and see this thing full on.

That loco has been gone from the woodyard about 8 years now.
It certainly was a landmark.

Good to know I wasn't going a bit mad.

Did a google streetview trace of hertford road around where I remembered it being and couldn't find it so was doubting myself into thinking it was in the Walthamstow/Leyton area.

I also found this : https://www.flickr.com/photos/albedo/868831555 Which appears to be the loco in question? I recall it being green in my youth though.
