(Sorry they're terrible)
I completely didn't recognise it as a B1, as all the photos I've ever seen have been with the wings swept back. It's surprisingly long and lean with the wings outstretched! I thought it was a drone.
It's been an amazing month for viewing stuff if you're anyway near milldenheath

I was so surprised I nearly came off my bike.
We see and (mostly) hear a fair amount of military aeroplanes and helicopters around here what with Lakenheath and Mildenhall, but that's the first truly awesome plane I've seen since living here.
You should've been round here in the 1980s! I remember Blackbird coming in low over our primary school playing field on approach to Lakenheath. We see and (mostly) hear a fair amount of military aeroplanes and helicopters around here what with Lakenheath and Mildenhall, but that's the first truly awesome plane I've seen since living here.
Later in the 1990s the Stealth fighter would often come in, usually early evening and right over our house

Yeah, that'd be something that would stick in the mind! I'd love to have seen Blackbird flying.Later in the 1990s the Stealth fighter would often come in, usually early evening and right over our house

I stood right at the end of the runway at Lakenheath a couple of times when the blackbird landed.
It was something special having it fly over your head at about 70/80 feet, then having the heat blast hit you!

I've got a memory from the early nineties, probably during the Balkans Conflict, of living at Brize Norton and being able to hear the B1's taking off from Upper Hayford. You'd hear low rumbling for a while as the aircraft took off and presumably flew south near Brize. Looking at the map now Upper Hayford seems quite a long way away to be hearing them taking off, but that distinct rumbling and my dad telling me it was the B1's has stuck in my mind...

Upper Heyford closed in 1993 after the last F-111's left, and the B-1B was first used in the Balkans in 1999, and they flew from Fairford??So, it might have been earlier, during the Gulf War in '91 when the F-111's were flying from Upper Heyford?
