Bringing your own drinks (of the alcoholic variety) in to the circuit.

We were fairly well searched and checked before going in the circuit on Sunday - metal detector wand thing as well.

This was via the main entrance, near the museum.

It would seem that they will not be letting you bring any alcohol in - no cans, no bottles.

So be warned if you are in Houx, as you are considered to be in the circuit there - and possibly other campsites, used to be Maison Blanche, but not sure much of that is left if at all.

Oh and it looks like the price of beer at the circuit has gone up and I joked that the volume served has gone down at the same time..

Will let people know from Tuesday - but could be more stringent this year than in other years where they've stopped glass bottles being brought in and then relaxed it a little..

Was odd with the restrictions last year.

We entered with cans of beer by the karting track no problem, exited briefly to check the shuttles by the football stadium then weren't allowed back in with the beers!

Luckily we liked the challenge of necking all our beers as quickly as possible!

We get the same restrictions every year but they never check the van thoroughly enough - they didn't even notice a large calor gas bottle we took for the bbq. We stay in BSJ, tho, so anything goes... They do search you if you try to get to the viewing area at Porsche curves. Glass is banned and maybe cans too? I can't remember, but they check everyone and are very strict about it. We decant drinks into plastic bottles which is OK by them.

I don't think opened plastic bottles will be allowed either... They ban used to be glass bottles (alledgedly thanks to the fans who went to the Moto 24hrs a few years ago) but now, I think there is a French ban on bringing your own alcohol in to a sporting event.

I'll see if I can get the actual information from someone who lives in France - a few we met up with on Sunday were joking about having to surreptitiously fill water bottles.

As always if you are on a campsite but outside the confines of the circuit you are fine, once you have to scan your GE ticket you are in the circuit and will probably be checked.

Gone are the days we filled rucksack with tinnies or bottles and had a few whilst ambling round...

Ah bum. Well I'm sure we'll devise a suitably machiavellian solution to that problem. Maybe an airdrop via a drone?

Yep - they may well relent, but were mega keen on Sunday - although of course the crowds were a lot smaller, but still quite sizeable... I suspect that once it gets busy they will be less stringent.

During my last visit (2014) I distinctly remember leaving Mulsanne campsite with a rucksack full of beers.....

We got into the circuit around 11pm (off of the shuttle buses) without any checks whatsoever...

A shame this has changed now, I guess I will just have to drink more at the campsite before!

Out of interest, how much is a pint inside the circuit these days?

Fookin hell, I will definitely be getting tanked up at the campsite!

Is that once you have purchased your plastic cup, or the first charge? Normally the cups are 4-5 EUR

Dunno - I was driving.. I think the cups are on top... That info was from the French chaps we met up with, they were not impressed!

Stick a few cans in between the fabric of the camping chair in its bag.

You're welcome wink

Noob alert here, so please bear with me.

I'm staying in the main 1st tickets private campsite. Can I not bring booze in my car into the campsite?

You'll be fine. 1st tickets is on Blue Nord, which is outside of the circuit.

You can bring alcohol into the PH site yes. There have been on and off checks for glass bottles over the last few years so the advice would be to bring cans. That said we took numerous bottles in every year buried under kit in the boot and have never had anything more than a quick look in the boot by security at the main gate (no search at the PH gate).

We also bought numerous drinks from the PH bar too just to keep 1st Tickets going (as if they need our help;) ).

'Normal' price for a half litre (large beer) is around 7 Euros - and that's outside the circuit (hotels etc and not near Le Mans!!).
At least it's cheaper than a lot of the French (& Italian) ski resorts.
But then one must keep up the fluid intake - purely on health grounds......

My thoughts on this are that the searches at the entrance are more concerned with the current terrorist threat levels at major events in France and less to do with what alcohol is carried.

We've previously been waved through to Tertre Rouge with cans on display and until last year glass bottles as well. It is the glass they are trying to reduce.

But I am fully expecting to be searched at the gate this year, in a similar manner to the explosive checks they run on vehicles at the Eurotunnel.

Does anyone know how this applies to the Travel Destinations campsite at Porsche Curves?
