Has anyone thought of getting rid of the cortina handles smoothing off the door and fitting a button under the wing mirror..?
Now there's an idea!!!

If I'm going into all that trouble of fitting a button on the wing mirror, smoothing the door and fitting a solenoid on the door lock, I would almost certainly go all the way and fit a scissor door conversion so that the doors open upwards as in the Lambo. Then paint the car bright orange and the jobs done. Imagine what everyone would say then, when you pull up outside and lift the door using the remote. 'Flash git' springs to mind.

Lambo hinges = £250 + Labour + Paint = £1500 approx

Or
Central locking = £20....Button x 2 = £10....Filler = £20...Labour (D.I.Y) + Paint = £150

I know which one i would go for...smile

Yes, but central locking doesn't open the door. It just unlocks it. If you want the door to pop open when you press the button or use the remote, you need a suitable solenoid and spring loaded lock mechanism. All that then has to be designed to fit the door. It could work out a lot more than you think. biggrin

You said only yesterday that when kids in the street see your car they say 'look at that racing car'!!!. Just imagine what they'll say when you lift up them scissor doors and step out the Wedge. It could well be worth every penny.

A mate of mine did this on his Chavalier, he was fed up of people prying the handle off and breaking in.

Just needs an actuator connection to the door pull, and a remote jog switch to activate it.

True but most Wedge doors have dropped anyway so they will fall open...I generally fall out of a Wedge so even with Lambo doors i would still look a total plonker...smile
Plus i wouldn't like one to come open while driving....eek

Lambo doors and the frames that make them go up like they do weigh as much as a small village. I remember a kid up this way putting a set on a Corsa of all things.
