I'm considering an E55 AMG as a daily-driver. Has anyone on here got one and uses it every day ?

What are they really like ? It would be my first Mercedes - and you know, well, I'm getting old.....

Seriously, it would be my reliable and smart car to be used to get me to work.

Regarding buying, I've seen plenty of rusty E55s, so I guess this would be the main thing to watch.

'owt else ?

There are a few people around here who use them.

They are a bargain.

Rust is the only real problem other than general age-, mileage- and neglect-related wear and tear. The engine is unburstable. The suspension is simple and straight forward to overhaul. I think brake discs and pads can be pricey but not horrifically so. The interiors and systems seem to hold up well. If you can find one which isn't rusty (rarer colours are better in this respect), I suspect you will have a great car.

Hi - I own a 1998 E55 Estate and have run it as an everyday car for nearly a year.

Fantastic to use as a daily, totally reliable, very comfortable, high spec, useable power at any rpm. MPG is poor Round town only 15 ish but on a run expect 25-30.

Good history is a must, servicing not too bad (16 spark plugs only costly part!). I recently replaced front discs and pads with Genuine Mercedes discs at less than £50 per disc!!

As said above look out for rust everywhere. Suspension parts need frequent attention but there not too expensive. My local Mercedes-Benz parts dept are very helpful, some parts are ridiculously cheap and others still ridiculously expensive but MB always worth a call first!
