Hearts of Iron 4
Discussion
Given that HOI3 is one of the most involving strategy games I've ever played, I'm looking longingly at HOI4, but am currently working abroad with only a Windows 10 tablet that definitely won't run it, and not really wanting to spunk 600 quid on a laptop that I don't really need other than to play games
So anyone had a go with it yet? How does it compare to 3?

I've seen it, but not bought it. Loved 3 after finding 2 really hard to get into at first. Hope there is more freedom in what can be done, as by the "Finest Hour" update far too much was hardwired in.
I spent ages getting Japan aligned with Russia, only to find there was no way I could ally with them.

I've had a quick play and run through the tutorial (very short bit based on Italy), but not had much time to play with it yet. I didn't find the research tree and elements of the interface as intuitive as HOI3, but then again I probably didn't find HOI3 particularly intuitive the first time I played it. There's some good tutorial videos on youtube that seem to cover a lot more stuff than the game tutorial. A colleague who's had a go at the German campaign reckoned it's easier than HOI3, only took him 2 attempts to achieve Sealion and he said Barbarossa was way easier
I've been playing this a while now and have been hooked, I've done several different games of it now and still feel some appeal towards it. I also have 2 and 3, but barely played 3 as at the time I felt it was too complex (my patience / attention span for 'complex' games seems to have dwindled in recent years). HOI4 however, once I got past the first hour or two of figuring it out became simple to understand and play.
I suspect HOI4 has been "dumbed down" a bit as many games are these days (Civilisation for example seems to have been continually made simpler with each iteration), which is something I normally dislike, but in this case, if true, I'm glad for as it certainly helped me get into playing it.
