Inherited a 20 year old watch
Discussion
Hi,
I inherited a 20 year old Breitling watch, I know nothing about watches and don't even wear one but was advised to get it valued for insurance, I was thinking it might be worth a few grand but the valuation came in at just over 11k,I was shocked to say the least. Anyway my question is what do I need to do to keep in good condition, I heard you need to have watches serviced etc is that yearly ? I'm not selling the watch but intend to hand it down to my son when the time is right so I want to maintain it well.
thanks

Not got the valuation in front of me but the model was D1501 or something, its a chronomat , dual coloured strap looks gold colour and stainless steal with mother of pearl face, with 3 extra dials, the closest thing I can find to it in their current range is this one http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/Breitling-Chronomat-41... and that's just under £10k so may be they based it on this as a replacement and bunged another grand on to it for insurance. I thought the valuation came in on the high side but I'm not expert, it was actually Goldsmiths who I got to do the valuation and the link to the closest new one I found on sale was from them as well so must of been how they came to that figure.
