I have recently purchased a sport 160 and am about to embark on my first serious trackday, any advice on tyre pressures,I'm running Toyo Proxes T1R's.During a driver training day they squeeled all the way round the hairpin with a couple of pounds above normal road pressures. Also it graunches going into 5th if you don't pause in neutral or take it slowly. No problems any other gear, up or down, fast or slow.Any advice appreciated,I'm in Kiwiland so not a lot of experiace around

Just spotted you posted this one Mark, old post I know but I might have the answer.

Over on SELOC, most guys run (PSI) 23/26 in summer and 24/27 in the winter on the road... sometimes on trackdays they run as low as 21/23 to take ionto account the extra heating.

Most people run pressures way too high. Given that most road cars need about 30psi and in a bigger, lower profile tyre like the Elise has up to about 35/36. On the Elise this just is way too much and the tyre doesn't squeeze enough and you get a very small contact patch. this lower pressure (I'm told) works the best and when the Elise gets on track I'm going to run it at about 23/26 to start and I'll have a look after each run with an IR tyre temp meter to see how that's working out.... it may be that you've been running severe overpressure for some time... if you have, then if you bring them back into this range you should notice an astounding difference.

We're almost leading double lives today mate, except I'm on TS-1's...

All I can say is don't run 23/26 (as you would on Advans) as it feels understeery and very, very light at the front when you're giving it the Johnny Big Potatoes.

I'm hoping someone will come along and tell me what's best or it's gonna have to be tinker-time.

Having said that I can get my hands on a set of part worn Advans for £200 which I'm sorely tempted by at the moment.

I track mine with std tyre pressures 23F and 24.5R and don't have any problems.

When I started sprinting, guy with a very fast Exige told me "lots of people get very precious about tyre pressures on Elises, use standard pressures until you you know enough to change them"

Remember to measure the pressures cold though.
