Most I've done on an autobahn is 165mph and that felt quick enough, with the possibility of other cars up ahead, even if you do have a clear straight. Looked lively through some of those bends!

Normally a big fan of Evo videos but surely there has to be better videos of such a special car than hooning down the Autobahn at 200 mph. Lets hope they've made better use of their access to such a special car...

Good viewing, but staggeringly risky. As he broached 200mph he passed another family car - a closing speed of perhaps 120mph. Difficult to defend. If I did 110 on an empty 3 lane M4 at 5.30am I'd have the book thrown at me and lose my licence, I imagine. This was in failing light on two lanes and grossly faster. Caveat auriga.

Looked scary to me too. Was wincing watching vid as all it takes is for a driver not paying attention to pull out and thats it. R was understeering a bit through very fast long sweepers too. Braver man than me!

Normal for the de-restricted parts of the Autobahn , I have been doing 160 mph in the fast lane only to be flashed to move over and an AMG estate with a dog in the back sails past......
Other road users are aware and it is safe ..

Trust me there's a big difference between 180mph and 200mph! Especially through a bend. On similar roads (when dead) I slow down to between 150mph and 175mph depending on the sweeper. If you don't know the roads very well thats scary even if the cars not understeering but he certainly looks like he's using extra lock late in one or two places- I'd be terrified passing a family car at that speed!

How on earth do you glean that from a short piece of GoPro camera footage?

Apart from which, the road was comparatively empty and the conditions allowed big speeds. I've passed cars and trucks at nigh-on 200mph in a GT3 (the trucks would entail a closing speed of approx 140 mph). No-one died.

Besides, the Germans are trained to be observant; Catchpole had his full beam on and he would have backed off if he'd sensed that the slower car was wavering.

Apart from which, he wasn't trying to pin it through the bends.

Ha each to their own and I've used my car on more cross continental trips than you've had hot dinners my friend. I suppose we all have our own appetite for risk. Maybe I'm risk averse who knows?

Good driving by Henry, he slowed down when he had to and didn't when he didn't have to, used his nouse on what was about to be overtaken.

I'd have undertaken that caravan in a lurid slide whilst eating a Ginsters, so he loses points for not doing that. Rest was good though.

I'm not having a go at all and he drove the car very well. There's also nothing wrong with bit of understeer and when he does perhaps feel understeer he uses both lanes which is also very good technique. All cars have level of understeer built into them for safety there's nothing wrong with this. He passes a family wagon and a truck 100m in front of the family wagon at approaching 260 clicks. If the family wagon had pulled out to overtake the truck early without looking it would have been very hairy indeed. As others say German drivers are used to it but I prefer to do those sort of speeds when there are no other cars on the Autobahn 3-5am.

Animals such as foxes, badgers & deer tend to be out and about in the wee small hours and are not likely to know what a pair of headlights hurtling towards them means; they tend to just freeze where they are. Even encountering a brick or the like lying in the road at night at 300kph is unlikely to end well. Having hit a small deer in the dark at a mere 50mph many moons ago, I know which road user I'd take my chances with...

I've hit both a badger and a deer. Thankfully not at 300kph. You take your chances I'll stick with early morning runs thanks. Autobahn can be a nightmare when lots of cars about.
