Low Mileage Cayman with 3 Previous Owners - Should I worry?

Hi All,

New PHer here. I wanted to get your advice on something...

I'm about to put down a deposit on a used Gen II Porsche Cayman S.

The car is being bought from a main Porsche dealer and it's manufacturer approved (so comes with their 2-year warranty), but should I be concerned that a car with only 15,000 miles on the clock has had 3 previous owners?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I wouldn't be concerned. I'm the 5th owner of my 09 Gen 2, the first being Porsche Exeter. Some people buy these cars as weekend toys and will keep them for just a year before changing. The tiny pitter patter of feet also means they have to be sold on too.

As long as all the history stacks up then buy on condition rather than mileage and number of owners. The gen 2 is proving to be pretty solid reliability wise with nothing too major to report as yet. Check that the fuel pump has been replaced with the revised version though, you should see the service campaign towards the rear of the service book.

Short answer, no. They're often bought as second cars and see little mileage.

If it has FSH and has been correctly maintained, buy it and enjoy it!

Hi. I cannot find any details of a recall for fuel pumps for GenII Caymans. http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/default.as...

It wasn't a recall. I think Porsche call them 'service campaigns' or 'quality improvements', something like that. It wasn't dangerous, it just stopped working apparently

The recall code (or whatever it's called) was WB08 and apparently effected the early DFI engines so not the Cayman 2.9, only the Gen2 S. Should be able to see if it's still pending by putting the VIN in here: https://recall.porsche.com/prod/pag/vinrecalllooku...

Clutch switch is another service upgrade so check this has been replaced too.

I got so frustrated by the clutch switch when it started to fail that it was replaced with a fuse.
