Just had a text with HMREVENUE in the top box, (and NOT a mobile number as you would expect),telling me that I was due a rebate of £264. I was to log on to a very long website address to claim the rebate. I logged on to this formal looking Government website with GOV.UK in the top left hand corner, and a form which asked for name/address/phone number/email address and underneath that more boxes asking for my credit/debit card numbers.
Being slightly less than stupid, I declined their offer of filling in this form.

WATCH OUT - THERE'S A SCAMMER ABOUT !!!!

I'm surprised you even bothered to post it.

Certainly very well known, my Spam filter gets about 6 scam HMRC e-mails a day. First time I've heard of a text though. The fact you even got as far logging in (which means they now have your Government Gateway info!) surprised me somewhat though.

My wife works for the hmrc. You'd be amazed how many people do respond with full details to These emails and texts. They eventually ring the proper hmrc playing hell they haven't received anything.
