I listed a mobile aircon unit earlier today as BIN or best offer and specifically put "cash on collection only"

Just has an email saying somebody has paid the full price using, you've guessed it, bloody Paypal. In fairness I've just spoken to the guy and he seems ok and wants to collect it tonight. So, is he going to collect it and then say he never received it and they refund him, or am I being paranoid?

I bloody hate ebay furious

Refund and ask him to pay cash on collection?

Problem is with PayPal and Cash on Collection there's no "proof" of delivery. If he starts a dispute it'll be seller vs buyer, and (from experience) eBay/PayPal will usually side with the buyer, especially if there's no proof of delivery.

Yes, thanks, that was my first thought! He's now on his way so I'll play it by ear and see whether he's agreeable, if not I've made out a pretty comprehensive sales receipt which he can sign to say he's had the item.

I sold a tent, over a month later guy throws up a return request, he you guessed it he paid via PayPal
As the guy didn't provide any evidence I as the seller won.

It's a risk. But from his POV he has some comeback if it's no good.

How about asking him to sign a 'Received in good condition' receipt thingy?

All good in the end; turned out to be a nice bloke and apologised for the paypal error. He didn't have any cash on him and I'm a fair way from a cashpoint so just let it go, but he was happy to sign my rather comprehensive sales receipt! Poor bloke did a 125mile round trip just so he and his 8 year old son could get some sleep during this hot spell. As I said, came across as a really genuine guy so happy to forgive his error!

Glad to hear it turned out well in the end, unfortunately due to years of selling on eBay and the number of morons/scammers encountered I now treat everyone with suspicion.

Well I hope all goes well and he is a good bloke because unless that receipt is on a recognised courier company's headed notepaper it's worthless. The Paypal T&C's that you agree to when you signed up for you account says it will only accept a courier POD (Proof of delivery) as binding. Anything else, even if it's written in the buyers own blood and verified with a DNA test is unacceptable.

No matter how good the receipt, it won't be worth the paper it's written on when the real buyer claims he hasn't had the item, and maintains whoever collected it must have hacked his account.

You can Google it if you like-
