PLANS have been revealed for part of the A338 Spur Road to be turned into three lanes - with work expected to take up to two years.

Just weeks after the completion of a nine-month resurfacing project, Bournemouth council has revealed it is now examining the options for major works between the Cooper Dean roundabout and the Blackwater junction.

The council is planning to come up with a range of proposals which will go out to public consultation, but construction looks set to start in 2018 and finish in 2020.

Remind me again what they achieved with the first lot? Lovely new surface but wasn't the idea to add a hard shoulder, so each breakdown doesn't cause utter chaos? There is still no hard shoulder and the only lay-bys that were there have been removed, from what I could see. And the grass/dirt verge looks like soft enough to swallow cars whole if you dare need it or drift onto it.

I can't really see how this will make any difference, they just need to improve the Blackwater southbound on slip a bit.

If Greater Bournemouth wants to solve their traffic problems they need to get a decent North/South route out of Poole sorted.

Yes. They missed that opportunity when they built the Ferndown bypass and only did half the job.

IMHO Greater Bournemouth's traffic problems stem from the fact that the only decent roads (Dorset Way and Wessex Way) go in to it from the east and west, and they don't connect together in the middle, and there are no decent connections north/south to the A31 (effectively the Bournemouth Bypass). A lot of the problem roads are either linking the two roads first mentioned (e.g. Wallisdown Road/Poole Road), or north/south roads from them up to the A31 (Gravel Hill/Ham Lane).

And breathe...
