Throckmorton Cancelled
Discussion
Apparently the Throckmorton Airshow has been cancelled today - just two days before it was to go ahead.
From what I understand it is due to the increased costs involved & the latest CAA regulations.
So. Well done CAA.
Slowly but surely bringing an end to all our air displays.
Also the CAA are playing havock down in Paignton ahead of this weekend Torbay. Over 70 roads have been closed & residents have been banned from parking in their own roads!!
All in the name of Health & Safety.
A little bit odd really bearing in mind the displays are taking place over the sea!

Sad state of affairs:
"With only a few days to go before the show, the liability and responsibilities placed on the FDD (Flying Display Director) & FCC (Flying Control Committee) as well as the event organisers personally, has resulted in substantial cost increases. As the show is held in aid of chosen charities, RAF Benevolent Fund and Midlands Air Ambulance, the organisers were left with no choice but to cancel the 2016 Throckmorton Air Show. The risk of not being financially viable to cover costs and donate monies to their two selected charities, has been a leading element in the decision."
Loss of a substantial sum of money to two very decent charities.

Despite the organisers submitting their initial application for a display approval to the CAA back in January of 2016, prior to the controversial ‘increase in charges’, permission was not forthcoming and has only been received today.
I have to look at it from the other perspective here. I sat in the horrendous traffic caused by site mismanagement last year. So to see that they pushed ahead without CAA permission, and have had to cancel because they still haven't received it, begs questions of the management of the event.weeboot said:

Wasnt the increased traffic due to the appearance of a particular plane last year?http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hereford-worc...
