I bought a TT last week - mk1 - bit of fun for the summer and what not.

I can't find evidence of when the Haldex oil and filter was last done and as the car is on 85k I might as well get it sorted.

After a google search I spotted that Audi currently have it as a fixed price service on "cars up to 2.0" as being £69.

Pretty reasonable for a main dealer so I called them up and asked if it includes the filter (knowing that TT shop, for example, charge £90 for the full job).

"No, just oil change" was the reply.

Who changes the oil but not the filter?

Ok - so how much to have the filter done?

"it's an old car so I'm having trouble finding it but it looks like £215.59"

I'm sorry - two-hundred-and-fifteen-pounds?! For a Haldex filter? The Genuine part from GSF is £32

Their advice - it's something I'll have to discuss with them when I drop the car off.

Erm...I'm not dropping the car off to have the oil done on its own, I'm not paying £215 for an oil filter and I'm not driving all the way to the dealership on the off chance you've got the pricing wrong.

All very strange.

Another one for the Billion plus examples of Audi stealers being absolutely awful at after care. I avoid them like the plague and use specialists where ever I can.

IIRC, wasn't the service schedule every 20k for the oil, every 40k for oil and filter?

I may be wrong.....

At least it would get done if in specifically for that.

I'm told that most of the time when a car is serviced haldex oil changes get skipped, because the quicker the job, the more bonus the technician makes. Of course, you'd never know because the service history states its been done...

Never had a problem with the dealers.

And, as a private owner, they were happy to 'negotiate' on prices.

If you don't ask etc etc.

I believe so.

ETA: You mentioned TT shop OP so probably already aware, but just in case - get yourself over to the TT forum. Pretty good bunch, very friendly.

My last experience with a stealer will be just that my last experience. Totally useless bunch of spanners.

My car has a Haldex oil and filter ticked off in the book twice at 20,000 and 40,000 from the Vw main dealer, this was before I bought the car.

It's a Bora and very much two wheel drive.

I can't see much good from visiting the main dealer unless you know for certain there's something in it for you.

Yep Mk1 was 20k miles for the oil and 40k for the filter.

Been almost 7 years since I sold mine but seem to remember it was around £40 for the oil and the same for the filter. Was around the same price for the 7 years that I owned the car and was a similar price for the 6 years I owned a mk2 - oil and filter together every 40k. That £215 was definitely plucked out of thin air and the £69 really should be for both as the 3 year old plus fixed servicing stuff usually works out okay and in my experience compares well to some indies.

Same with brake fluid on ours - the extent of which seemed to be hand writing it on the invoice.

Car goes to an indie now.

I almost always have to correct some element of the box ticking in the service book (assuming it's been filled out at all, which it wasn't last time!) to reflect the work done paid for. I keep all receipts with the intention that they go with the car for future owners, but that doesn't help if the work's not been done!
