I've received a letter from HMRC asking for information on the salary I received last tax year as they want to check I've paid the correct amount of NI.

I was just about to post my completed response but thought, would this not be taken into account in my Tax Return? I tried to call HMRC to ask but the lines wee jammed and after 4 mins of going through security, the call was ended by them - not even letting me hold.

So, should I send this off as NI is completely different to NI or will everything be sorted out in my Tax Return.

I am keen to do my Tax Return as I'm sure I am owed money both on mileage expenses (45p per mile minus what I have been paid) and 20% tax relief on pension contributions but am awaiting a P11D from a previous employer.

Thanks in advance for any help!

What did they ask for?

They can't calculate NI just from the annual income because it's relative to pay periods (unless you are a Director).

How much I was paid for each employment and the time periods I was employed there. I included copies of my P45 and P60 (changed jobs last year) to help them.

Did you have any non-employment income i.e. self employed income, in the relevant tax year?
