OK you lot, it's back, by popular demand:

"What Should I Do At Work Today?"

2-10pm shift. I already have three appointments booked for contemporaneous interviews and statements. Throw in my refreshment break, briefing and debriefing, and there will be about three hours for me to patrol the hundred or so square miles I cover (as the sole TrafPol for the Division).

Any requests from the PH collective in between the various bumps, juvenile nuisance, missing persons enquiries, shoplifters, domestics and the like?

Hang on a minute, I think that's the three hours covered. Ho hum.

Any requests should be in before 1pm, when I leave for work.

It might actually be five to one, as I have to stop and get some extra cream, so putting the brush handle in doesn't smart quite so much...

Which is why you don't have time for 'warning' eh?....or at least I rarely do....

I throw the odd 'warning' in...but find sleep difficult that evening..

Er, 'scuse me if I'm being naieve here but as 'sole TrafPol' shouldn't you be 'TrafPolling' not BeatPolling or CIDPolling? No wonder we don't see enough of you guys handling traffic is you're constantly doing 'normal' policing!

Doesn't seem much point having specalist traffic police if this is the case...

FOG LIGHT NUMPTIES PLEASE!

Anyone tailgating (in town or not). Anyone running a red-light. Anyone running an AMBER light - use a bit of discretion and just a bollocking...

Oh...and if you can spot some twit just stopping in the middle of the road so they can answer their phone..."so they're not doing it whilst driving"...a bit of "education" for them would be much appreciated!

Thanks, Dibble, mate!

Snow 'letter-box' numpties? Not sure if you have snow where you are, but I've seen some classic ones in the last few days. Funniest one today, someone cleared the drivers' side of the windscreen (top to bottom mind!) and left 3cms of snow on the passenger side

the old classic, Fog Light numpties.

It's the beginning of the month, bet you find some out of date tax...

But if all the beat officers are already busy, do I just say "No" when I get despatched to one of these jobs?

Or would that just be another example of a lazy idle BiB not doing the job he's paid for?

Dibs, this isn't a criticism of you at all, but this is really pathetic.

Do I understand correctly (from before) that you 100 square miles is reasonably urban ? I ask because where I live 1 trafpol for a 10x10 mile area is probably not far off.

You can't really do anything as far as I can see ; you're presence has to be almost tokenism.

It must be horrendously frustrating.

No personal criticism taken; yes, it is pathetic.

It's a mixture of urban and rural, including motorway (occasionally), fast A and B roads, housing estates, industrial areas and a large tourist resort.

10 miles by 10 miles is 100 square miles...

Ask most people how quality of life has deteriorated in the UK over the last few years and most will say street crime, graffitti, vandalism and so on.

Just having a presence and tackling the public's concerns, i.e. showing that you are concerned I think is important.

I'm sure most of the public think the BIB won't improve the quality of life in the UK by pulling people for minor motoring misdemenours. (I realise the tasks are often separate duties, but it's the pulling motorists bit that most people see and often the only time they ever see a BIB.)

It's interesting isn't it. I think that someone who will break one law is far more likely to brake others. A general lack of respect for authority. (I'm ruling out speeding though...because I want to ). So i'm all for people being pulled for the smallest things. Not saying they should always be fined etc, but if you pull them over you have more of a chance to detect of they are up to no good..... Bit like no tax suggests no insurance either. Dont care about the traffic laws might also meant dont care about being a public nusance...

But I agree that a lot of people dont think like this...

Stop anything which looks like it might be uninsured. Job done - get these scrotes off our roads.

Except we don't run the towaway thing if it's uninsured. They get a producer (or a £200/6 pointer from the ANPR team) and can carry on driving...

Drivers on roundabouts who don't follow the lane structure! Mostly women I'm afraid!

This is fine when there is no traffic around, but seems to mostly happen when it's busy!
