Question for experienced TVR owners

As this is my first post on here may I start by saying "Hi" to everyone?
I am considering buying a used TVR for my next toy, my budget will be around £25k mark and so would hope to get something with good history, low mileage etc. My question is this; while looking through the ads I have noticed a few advertisements saying recent new engine and yet the car has only done say 35000 miles for example!
Is there any particular engine I should avoid if possible?
Is there anything I should pay attention to?
Any advice will be most appreciated, thank you.

Maybe you should start by doing a search and including words like 'Speed 6'

Forgot to add that it will help if you indicate which model you are thinking of buying!

You got it wrong sir, theres no experienced TVR owners here... the cars only just about last a few months - then we pass them onto the next victim...

(Saying that, I hear the new models are worth the investment with all the warranty and stuff ie Sagaris, Tuscan 2, Typhon)

I should dip your toes in with a late Griffith or at least give a few a test drive.

I'm saying nought about the speed 6 engines for I have no experience of them directly.

Yup. A nice used Griff or Chimaera. If you get the Chimaera you'll get one of the last few made - and TVR really knew how to do it by the end.

You'll even have change to spend on its upkeep.

Late chim, you'll get a 2001/2002 for that budget or a late Griff.

hmmm... it's not easy choosing the right tvr. However, in this case i think the weapon of choice has to the chimaera 400hc.

it's sexy honest lines, sweet tones and an arse-to-die-for is only equalled by kylie in hot pants.

With a name of R1Biker, I'd have to suggest a Cerbera - great 4.2s in your budget. Sounds like 2 big 4 cylinder bike engines back to back (as it practically is), hair trigger throttle response a la bike, increasing power with increasing revs etc etc. And no S6 'issues' Whatever anyone else says, the 4.2 and 4.5 AJPs are pretty bulleproof.

Think you need to give us a bit more background into what you want from a car. At £25k, you can have Chim/Griff/Cerb/Tamora/Tuscan/T350 (just about)

Need to know what you'll be using it for, what "does it" for you, how much can you afford to spend per annum on running costs, how long will you keep it for, thoughts on depreciation, how many miles will you put on it, etc.

One thing I'd say up front: Don't even think about restricting yourself to a low-mileage car. You're just likely to pay a premium for a car that's still got a load of its initial issues still waiting to be sorted out!
