It's all about acceleration
Discussion
Some if not most on here seem to have got the completely wrong impression of me just because I think that the current speed limits are not that bad, accept that they have to be enforced and that doing so with fixed cameras or even mobile units on DCs, motorways and straight A roads is probably the least worse approach that the government could take (from a selfish perspective because if the effort is concentrated on those roads then I am not affected - I am much more concerned about GPS controlled speed limiters or black boxes in every car - both easy technical fixes).
I am pretty passionate about riding and driving, have had far too many cars and bikes and over the past couple of years have done more than 10'000 miles per year with fun drives and road trips.
For me it is all about acceleration. It is the buzz you get from accelerating and braking hard - having to hang on tight on the bike as you get dragged forward, feeling tyres fighting for grip as you power out of a corner or best of all the lateral acceleration in corners. In fact that is why corners are so great as you get all forms of acceleration going into, through and out of them. In comparison straight line speed is just plain dull. I often slow down for the straights and speed up for the corners!

Surely riding a motorbike to the point of the tyres fighting for grip and trying to let go mid corner should really be saved for race tracks and the Isle of Man TT race, rather than the public roads? All it takes is a patch of unseen mud on a road, or an unseen pothole, or an unseen slow moving vehicle ahead just around the corner, or for an oncoming vehicle to cross the centreline as they come round a corner (which happens far too often round by where I live these days - And that includes crossing solid white lines on completely blind bends!
), for you to become just another statistic and your family to get a knock on the door from the Police that they never wanted to get!Riding the way you suggest, one day the Law of averages is going to catch up with you, no matter how good a rider you think you are.
You can argue that that is your right to take that risk, but your risk is also putting others on the road at risk of injury too!

All valid points. Which is why I wouldn't be doing any of that unless I can see that the road is clean, I can see fully around the corner and could still stop within the view ahead. Which puts a lot more limits on how fast I ride or drive than legal speed limits.

Sounds like dangerous driving to me and far more risky than cruising 85mph on a motorway at 3AM.I am pretty passionate about riding and driving, have had far too many cars and bikes and over the past couple of years have done more than 10'000 miles per year with fun drives and road trips.
