From GT3 to GT4

In 2014 I got hold of one of the first 991 gt3 s. I was caught up in the engine debacle and it tarnished the whole thing. It was however an awe inspiring car. I ran it for around 3000 miles but couldn't really use it practically, constantly going up and down on the axle lift meant I had to plan trips. Plus, I'd always end a trip wanting to kiss the tarmac with relief that I hadn't totalled it.
So when I hit a difficult quarter on financials and received a ridiculous offer, I sold her.
I've regretted it every day since, but last week managed to get hold of a very low mileage gt4.
Wow, this has been a complete revelation . It's makes you feel like a driving God. It's easily the most engaging characterful car Ive ever driven. Crucially you can get drama and energy at low speeds. The GT3 only lights up at mental speeds.
Would be interested to hear from others who have made this transition. My journey wasn't planned, but right now I wouldn't swap the gt4 for a gt3....

I find the GT4 overall a better road car for perhaps 90% of the time......gearbox and clutch is a peach without being too heavy for daily use, feels smaller than GT3 despite being same 1978 mm width mirror to mirror, and sounds better at low and medium speeds. But on the 10% of occasions when you can come anywhere approaching the potential of the GT3s abilities on the road, there really are few substitutes.


TheBMWDriver - yes I paid overs, but not too bad. Plus car was VAT Q which is great for Jersey ... The way I look at these cars is that current pricing is what they should have been (and are worth at list). Held for long enough, this is definitely a modern classic. Trouble is I never hold them for very long!
