Any idea where the best is for me to take my car for its MOT, I live in the Bristol area? I'm a bit nervous taking it to any garage, just in case they damage it, being aluminium & all that.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

MD Mot centre:

I just took her direct myself this year - she was never out of my sight or driven about by others. Took half an hour rather than a day. Suits my brand of OCD smile

I was speaking recently to an MoT garage employee, where they used to do work for the local AM main dealer. Having lost that contract, they discovered it was because they were undercut on price. The dealer now pays just £23.

Thanks for the responses, I am a bit fussy as I had a car damaged a few years back having an MOT done, they damaged the sills, hence my question, it might sound overly fussy, but it's made me careful.

I 'get' fussy Steve. Some of us are and that's that - PITA for others as it is. Tough. Cardiff place in pic has done thousands of Astons - he just drove her around the block to test brakes. Never out of eye or eyesight or earshot. Relaxing wink PM if you want the details as for me that stuff and their Aston experience is worth its weight in gold.

There is absoltely no necessity to drive the car to test the brakes. An MOT station will have a rolling road brake tester to give a proper force readout from each wheel. The forces recorder have to be entered onto the computer during the test to evaluate the brake balance and efficiencies for the VOSA computer to issue the certificate.

£23.00 is quite low, most MOT stations will charge around £35.00 to £45.00 to motor trade clients.

Dont forget you will probably have a driver employed to take the car there, wait for it for almost an hour before returning it to base, and even on minimum wage, that takes most of the profit out of the deal for the dealer. The benefit for the MOT station is that they get a regular stream of cars instead of relying on passing trade.

The car never went on a rolling road. The chap confirmed the brakes are top notch in a practical fashion. Given he has done thousands of Astons this may even be better than scrubbing on a low lying rolling road.

If your car has an lsd make sure the MOT station has the correct brake testing equipment. Do DB9's have lsd's?

Likely as a Rapide does.

Guess this is why Aston experienced MOT tester did a road brake test rather than screw up the diff...
