What with the recent EU price rise, used/grey prices seem to be have been shoved up by c10% on SS Rolex, taking them very close to discounted new.

I was in Mappin & Webb yesterday, where the salesman without ANY prompting said he would do a discount if I paid cash for a DJII. £6100 list, he was talking numbers with circa 5-10% discount. That was without even trying.

I've read the rumours of a imminent UK price rise, and everyone I have spoken to says they reckon it'll be before the end of June, in fact when I went into Watchfinder to ask about their recent price rises on SS Rolex, the manager said it was becasue of the EU price rise and also the imminent UK price rise they are certain will happen.

So I'm wondering if now is the good time to barter in M&W? If so what do you think a realistic target price should be for a DJII?

Thanks in advance

Price rise rumours are a sales man selling trick. Authorised dealers are only told of a price rise by Rolex a few days before to get the ticketing in place.

Most places either do 2 years interest free or a small discount on steel...and upto 20% on all gold references.

If you know the reference just ring around the Rolex independents to see what's the best deal they offer.

Word of warning though...confirm the serial number make sure it's relatively new and not a watch been sitting in a window for months or even years with people handling it.

I always ask for mine to be ordered fresh in the little coffin plastic boxes.

I got six and never bought out of a shop window.

And how would you do this?
Just wondering since Rolex have used random serial numbers since 2009 / 2010 ish

Ok, bit of an update.

I've spent the past few days trawling the London used shops (I work in Mayfair, so have easy access to all the shops in my lunch-hour) and also visiting the UK high street chains. The second-hand places are all saying a price rise is 99.99% expected after Brexit, so they are scrambling for stock that has now dried up, and they're not willing to drop a penny off their prices. All the high street chains flat outright say "no discount on steel", but one place (UK main haigh street chain) has said they would do £5750 (RRP is £6100) if I bought this week in cash and no p/x.

Given Grey prices for new are circa £5500 and there's a two week wait, I think this is a pretty good deal to get before a potential price rise,.

Thoughts?

So a Swiss company who aren't in the EU put their prices up post Brexit?
Sounds credible.

We're currently cheaper than Europe and the USA. When was the last price rise?
It's due.

I'd be checking the prices at Iconic Watches. They source from EU dealers and can achieve some decent discounts on UK RRP.

Thanks - the more I think about it, the more I think this is going to happen. I'm sold. Off to the AD today to purchase, if he'll still honour the price. smile

I would say that, judging by the current polls, that it is almost a certainty.

Nah, it's just the "vote leave" are louder. Moderate people will decline to answer the poll, and vote in. Happens every time there's a poll.

I hope you're right, otherwise in a couple of years time we might be seeing threads entitled "Timex - a good time to buy?"

Love it! That's a fabulous looking watch. I went with the DJII as well due to my big wrists.

I also went with an AD in the end as well due to the 5 year warranty and I liked the idea of having my details registered on the original warranty card.

Hope you enjoy it.

Nice. I got a mug, a coater and the opportunity to host my father in law for dinner. Want to swap lives?
