I have just spent 3 hours doing a 26 mile round trip due to this idiot:

http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/Download-motoris...

I gave up on my journey after realising my return would be hellish (as it was yesterday coming back from the Porsche Pageant which was due to the same incident). So I have been crawling through traffic trying to get back home. And just because of this idiot thousands of people are being disrupted.

So why don't the police put a inflatable below the sign and then either go get him instead of trying to talk him down?

BTW If anyone is going anywhere close to M1 southbound from Junction 26 to 21 or along the A50 from Derby to Donnington don't even try. don't attempt to go anywhere close to Junction 24 because it is utterly gridlocked.

It delayed him returning from Porsche pageant FFS.

Lets just shoot some one so the important Porsche driver avoids a 26 mile detour!

FFS! You have no idea of the circumstances.

You got slightly delayed. Accept it like most normal rational people would do.

He didn't say shoot him.

He said 'can't the police just shoot him'?

How about a tranquiliser dart? Would that work?

Possibly. They aren't instant though. He might fall off and be seriously injured mid-effect.

Suppose he is allergic? Or they miss his body and blind him?

Better just to wait, he will fall asleep or get too hungry / bored.

Did wonder what was going on yesterday on the way back from Silverstone. Saw some police and ambulances, but no crashed cars.

Hope he enjoyed the heavy rain.

They should have hooked up an electric fence energiser to the sign. That would soon have fetched him down.

All the surrounding roads are gridlocked, I'm looking at a very slow drive home.

He warned the police he was going to do it:

And he's done it before:

There is a serious side to this thread. In this case a protester knows that his actions are going to inconvenience many. If he knew that the police would bean bag him off the bridge on to a big pillow, and it will all last only 15 mins, then he might consider a different type of action.

The way that public officials pussy-foot around in this country does assist protesters.

I got stuck on a French motorway once when the taxi drivers dispute took the form of driving at 5mph or less and so blocking the motorway.
The Police were actively preventing all of the following drivers from trying to 'push' past.

Those actions looked very much like Police assistance let alone pussy-footing around.

The police should go up there and drag him down. That's their job.

If he jumps instead then so be it.
